SMT R Series Convection Reflow Oven

SMT R Series Convection Reflow Oven

Description

SMT R Series Convection Reflow Oven – NEW

SMT R Series Convection Reflow Ovens are distinguished amongst others by long life cycle, high process stability, and extremely low power and nitrogen consumption.

Specialists in reflow soldering, SMT design and manufacture all the equipment at their state of the art facility in Wertheim, Germany.  Founded in 1987 with the sole purpose of producing the most efficient and advanced reflow oven available their philosophy has not changed.  Following the worldwide success of the Quattro Peak range, SMT have released the ‘R’ series of convection reflow ovens with innovative and ground-breaking technology aimed at providing the most efficient and advanced reflow oven available.

The SMT R Series Convection Reflow Ovens are offer unparalleled performance within their class.

Major innovations, which make the R series the undoubted market leader for those users who require the most dependable production processes with the lowest life-time cost of ownership are: –

Zone Concept

The number of zones within the reflow process has NO influence on the ΔT.  Air volume is the governing factor and by using very powerful and highly controllable fans SMT can achieve the lowest ΔT across any PCB.

3:1 Rule

Key to the success of soldering is the 3:1 rule.  When considering soldering standards issued by IPC-JEDEC the ideal profile follow the 3:1 rule i.e. 3 parts pre-heating to 1 part reflow.  Unbalancing this ration leads to a deterioration in soldering quality e.g. more pre-heat will ‘dry’ the paste too much prior to reflow and thus promote oxidisation.

The SMT R320 Convection Reflow Oven adopts the 3:1 rule within the 3.2m heating zone and this ration is also maintained in the other R-series machines (R320/360/410/460).

Efficiency

As a result of using fewer fans within the process, the process becomes more reliable and also more efficient.  The energy saving over the life of the oven is a key factor in ensuring that the cost of ownership of a SMT reflow oven is the lowest in-class.

Process Gas Cleaning

Ensuring all residues are removed from the processing environment within the reflow oven is key to efficiency as the need to heat new gas is hugely reduced.  Recycling the hot process gasses and ensuring they are clean is achieved in many different forms.  SMT has put the user first in designing the process gas cleaning system in the R-series; tool-free, easy access, very few consumables and a massive reduction in the requirement for a piped hot gas network within the oven has resulted in a highly efficient and easy to maintain process that ensures the cleanest recycled process gasses.  Access to all the maintenance areas is from the front of the machine optimising the floor space usage within the factory.

Cooling Concepts

The length of the cooling zone and the equipment (heat exchanger plates, optimized air baffles, etc.) can be selected flexibly. The cooling medium is supplied either via an integrated cooling unit or an external cooling tower  or can be connected to the chilled water facility within the production hall.

Unlike other manufacturers, SMT do not use difficult to clean radiators as the collection cool spot for flux residues, instead they use flat cooling plates that are easy to clean, have a long life and are quick and easy to clean.  The use of the cooling plates ensures a highly stable and extremely efficient cooling process

Intelligent Nitrogen Control

Intelligent nitrogen control with optimized control mode reduces nitrogen consumption to a minimum. The use of  real-time oxygen level measurement within the process by means of a Lambda probe (automotive engine management technology) in the peak zone provides continuous adjustment to the nitrogen injection process. Adding the exact amount of the inert gas to ensure an idea soldering atmosphere without the requirement to flood the processing chamber and waste this expensive resource.  Optimisation of the use of nitrogen ensures the perfect soldering condition and the most efficient use of the gas which contributes to the lowest life-time costs of ownership.

Cost of Ownership

When considering the purchase of an asset that is likely to used for a number of years it is important to consider the total cost of ownership in justifying the purchase.  Selecting the most efficient systems provide year on year payback and also satisfy the need to preserve the earth’s precious resources.  Choosing the best performing machine in its class also increases productivity by ensuring the process id right first time and therefore requires no costly and non-productive rework.

Model Selection Guide

The reflow soldering systems are individually configurable.  You can choose from different lengths for the heating and the cooling zone. Additionally there is a choice between single, dual or triple lane.

We realise the selection of a reflow oven is a major and often difficult decision, we strongly believe that the SMT product is the benchmark, contact us to arrange a video meeting where we can understand your process requirements and advise on model and specification.
